In the heart of Bremen’s Neustadt district, about 9,000 people study in approx. 70 practice-oriented bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes spread across five faculties:
Faculty 1: School of International Business
Faculty 2: School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering
Faculty 3: School of Social Sciences
Faculty 4: School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Every year, around 1,500 successful graduates leave the university, well equipped to enter the economy and society.
A key factor in our success is the contribution made every day to the further development of our university by our dedicated and motivated staff.
The well-being of our employees is therefore of particular importance to us.
Do you fancy brushing up on your English skills, taking part in our ‘active break’, improving your time management or singing in the university choir?
Bremen City University of Applied Sciences provides extensive information, advice and further education possibilities as ongoing support. In addition to the wide range of advanced training schemes, this also includes support for working abroad, for educational leave and cultural and sporting activities.
“Why do I work here? I highly appreciate working with students, who always seem to open new perspectives, and make me question my own habitual-thinking. It is especially wonderful to see how many of them develop a critical mindset and even social responsibility during their studies.”
The public service departments offer secure and versatile jobs – in every case. We also support you in setting up an additional pension provision for employees. You can find out about such special options at the VBL.
Whenever it may suit, the HSB permits you to decide for yourself where you work – at the university or from home, to reach the ideal conditions for an optimal work-life balance.
In addition, almost all our jobs are designed in such a way that you can choose to work part-time. For any questions you may have relating to working hours, you can contact the person named in the job advertisement if you are interested in a position.
The ‘Family-Friendly University’ audit has been carried out regularly at the HSB since 2005 – and we continue to work on improving it: we strive to promote the compatibility of family and career in all areas of work. Feel free to talk to us about your individual work-time models, home office, paid leave for special family events or emergencies or any other issues that might concern you. Our family office is there to assist you with this.
Bremen City University of Applied Sciences supports the ‘Flummi e.V. – Eltern-Kind-Initiative’ (parent-child initiative) and the ‘Socke e.V. children’s group’. Both facilities offer care for children between the ages of 1 and 3. Members of the university have priority access to the available childcare places.
Bremen City University of Applied Sciences is centrally located in Bremen’s Neustadt district and is easily accessible by public transport. We offer discounts on public transport with the VBN Jobticket.
If you prefer to travel by bicycle, we offer secure parking facilities – some locations even offer charging stations for your e-bike. Speaking of bicycles: did you know that the university is located in the middle of the model region named: ‘Fahrradquartier’ (literally: the ‘bicycle quarter’)? The surrounding streets are therefore designed to meet the needs of cyclists. And if something breaks, our ‘Repair Café’ will help you. If you require a new or replacement bicycle, the university will support you with an interest-free loan, the so-called ‘Fahrradvorschuss’ (cycle loan-advance).
Bremen offers an impressive quality of life.
In the hanseatic city, big-city flair meets northern German leisure, top-class sport and a highly diverse cultural scene. Bremen offers open-minded cosmopolitanism that is also conscious of its traditions.
Centrally located, Bremen City University of Applied Sciences is spread across four sites in Bremen’s Neustadt. This lively, diverse district is popular with students and employees alike. Bremen’s beautiful city centre and old town are just a few minutes’ walk away.
The promotion of non-discrimination for women and queer people is strongly supported at the HSB through various measures and by the efforts of the equal opportunity’s office and the women’s office. Action programmes for gender equality have been in place at the HSB for over 20 years.
We have focussed particularly on schoolgirls and female students who are interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Furthermore, we understand diversity as an opportunity. At Bremen City University of Applied Sciences, we are working intensively to implement the second action plan of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. A glimpse at our action plan shows that we have introduced such measures on a larger scope: we are working on barrier-free communication, making studying easier, with adaptive workplace initiatives so that no disadvantages arise in the first place. Those with severe disabilities are supported with extended vacation days if desired or required.
Your personal and professional development is our reason for existing! Whether you want to develop your social and communication skills, media or methodological skills, leadership skills or personal topics or reflections with regard to mindfulness or health, we are happy to advise you on your options here.
